How can a trendy clothing store be eco-friendly
How can a trendy clothing store be environmentally friendly? Did I just say environmentally friendly and trendy clothing in the same sentence? Yes, there can be ways of shopping at Forever 21 environmentally friendly! Forever 21 has made sure that many of the things that they do are eco friendly and that they give back to the planet. If you want to read more about what Forever 21 is doing click here.
Here are 6 tips for stores to do more environmentally friendly things. Or you can apply them to your next shopping trip. Fingers crossed!
1. Stop using plastic bags for all the things you/the consumer purchase. Customer and Consumer sound the same, don’t they? If you are buying new clothes and then you get a plastic bag you are really not helping the environment!

2. Have environmentally friendly clothing made in the newest fashion. Try to buy from suppliers whose workers are getting paid well for work. A lot of the workers are living and working in harsh conditions. When they go home they don’t have a very safe environment because they are not getting paid good enough. This is common with fast fashion because most of the clothing is cheap for you to buy, therefore it has to be made even cheaper for you to think “wow it’s only $4, I am so getting this!”. Another popular item that I have seen that Walmart and a couple other stores are supplying jeans made from recycled bottles! I have no idea how they do this but I promise you when I felt the jeans they do not feel stiff and plasticy, they felt soft and breathable (how do they do this?).
3. Try to teach teenagers (me) that we should have classic clothes that have been in style for years so that we don't have to keep on buying clothes! If you have something that looks good on your body shape and is timeless, you won’t have to go shopping all the time! But if you like street clothes and graphic t-shirts with the newest bands keep reading...
4. Have online receipts instead of paper. Send them their receipts via email or phone number. And if you are the customer, ask if it’s possible that they don’t print a receipt for you or if they can send it to you. If you want them to come back to your shop you could have pictures of the online receipt of the shirt they just purchased showing that it can be styled in several ways with your other products. Not only does this get people to have the majority of their wardrobe your clothing. It makes your customer more creative with their outfit choices. They know the things that it goes well with and can pair it up with similar things! And if they wear their outfit outside and they get compliments from friends. They say this shirt is from “Mrs. Poopycats” (or fill in the blank). Then their friends will know that your store has cute clothing and look it up (free advertising, almost).
5. Have online shipping that comes in recycled cardboard, not recyclable cardboard but cardboard that has already been recycled but can be recycled! Don’t put all the flyers in the box but have a nice note that you are texted on the day that your package is supposed to arrive.
6. Have bike parking for your shop. If you encourage people to ride public transportation or ride their bike if it’s not too far your not producing as much co2! If the person takes a picture of their bike or can prove that they rode an environmentally friendlier way, they get a small discount or something. You could even have a hashtag for people to use on Instagram and at the end of the month a person could win something for coming to you.
I had a lot of fun writing this blog post! I think that things can always be done better. Heck even this blog post could be written better and I am okay with that. If you have any suggestions on how I could have written this or any of my other blog posts better, please send me an email at: zerowasteteeneditor@gmail.com and I will try to read it and take your suggestions into account!
