Durian

Durian is my favorite fruit. It's creamy it's delicious and it smells amazing. Now some people don't agree with me on the smell and how it tastes but I can't get enough.

The first time I had durian, it was in Singapore at a market. The stand had about 100 packages of different types of durian. When I say different types I mean different levels of qualities. The highest is a AAA we got an A because the AA and AAA were so expensive. We sat down and opened the package with our fingers over our noses. When I tasted it, it wasn't that bad, so I unplugged my nose... By now the vendor that sold us the durian was laughing at us for plugging our noses. After that, I ate the rest of the Durian and my mom looked at me the whole time like "how can you eat that stuff and like it?". A couple of days later at another market in Singapore, we found durian gummies! Now I could take durian with me and give them to others (unfortunate others)! When I gave it to a person at dinner on a cruise ship it said that it tasted and smelled like a fart!

I haven't had fresh durian in a year or 2 so when I saw it at our local Chinese market I was like "whaaaaaa?!". When I took the durian and was about to walk to my dad to show him hat I had found, an Asian guy walked up to me and said you like durian? And I said yes, I love it! he said I love you for that. We purchased the durian and a couple of days later I read about how to tell if a durian is ripe.

How to tell if a durian is ripe... There are 3 ways to tell: 1 it has a very distinct durian smell when you smell the stem, 2 when you shake it you can hear the seed rattling between the fruit and 3 stick a knife in the middle to see if it is sticky (only if you are pretty sure that it's ripe because it perishes very quickly after you do). After I did all those things I cut it open and took a piece and it was amazing. Better than it was in Singapore! I thought maybe I had just picked a perfect piece and that the others wouldn't be nearly as good but they tasted just as refreshing and delicious. My Dad and I enjoyed the durian so much (and my mom wasn't there to smell it). When we were full of durian we packaged it tightly so everything wouldn't smell. I love durian and look forward to having it again. If you ever see it somewhere make sure you try it who knows you may like it! But you never know until you try...
