Going to the mall

Most Americans go to a mall at least once in their lives, especially women (not to be sexist, but it's a fun activity). If you want to go to the mall and try to be zero waste. Can it even be done? Yes, I am writing this at a mall and we have produced next to no waste. The reason we went to the mall in the first place was to get Chinese money for our trip. We got that and then we decided to get some lunch. The only problem was that I didn't have my bag with all my containers, straws and cups so I felt… naked. I travel with it pretty much all the time and I went in without it! We decided to go to Ugreen because it looked like they had amazing salad and real forks (no brainer!) and then we saw a pasta place right across the street (also known as across the food court). I will ALWAYS choose pasta over salad! We went in and let me tell you, it smelled amazing! They cook the pasta right in front of you. And for all vegans, vegetarians, pescitarians, carnivores, flexitarians, etc; they have something for you! I got spaghetti carbonara and my mom got a mushroom risotto.

When we go to the cashier they grated some fresh parmesan on the pastas. But then, tragic struck! In order for me to get some water from the coke machine that doesn’t use plastic I had to get a plastic cup. Dun, dun, DUNNNN (it sounds better when I say it). Behind the cashier they had chilled glasses with nothing in them! My mom asked because I was to scared to and she gave me one, very hesitantly, but she gave me one (you can see it to the left in the photo)! One thing I would highly recommend if you are trying to go zero waste in public is to always ask and if they say no, ask why. So got my water, metal silverware and had a yummy lunch. Then we wandered around the mall and were about to leave when we saw Carlos Bakery! Now they have a show called “Cake Boss” and I used to watch it a bunch so I wanted to go in and get a lil something. We decided on a strawberry shortcake doughnut thing and got in line. The lady behind us was practically jumping up and down because she was so excited to be here. She had waited till the end of her family’s vacation to get a bunch of sweet treats (she was a die hard fan of the show) to take back to England. Anyway we got the doughnut on a paper plate (yay!) and we were off.

Then we saw an eyebrow place (my mom had been dying to get here eyebrows done) and decided to go in. She got her eyebrows done and I had a bite of the doughnut thingie and then another and another and only half was left. It was REALLY good. If you ever see a Carlos Bakery and can stop, please do so (for me)! Then we finally left the mall with full stomachs, half a doughnut and more confidence (my mom had more confidence since she had more defined eyebrows, not me).
