Ziploc bags and zero waste

Have you ever heard of this before? It is not a thing. In fact a part of zero waste is not having things. Zero waste means many things to many different people. What zero waste means to me is lowering my carbon foot print by using less plastic, composting and thinking of ways to be more eco friendly! Though I have just embarked on this "journey" I have read a ton about zero waste and watched videos of families effortlessly living this amazing lifestyle. But I was doing one thing wrong. I wasn't doing. I was getting overly informed but didn't try anything. Then I decided to make small changes. Such as bringing a re-usable bag to to the store. Doing that gave a boost of endorphins, which made me feel all good and fuzzy inside. So I kept on doing these things. I hated that my mom was using ziploc bags and I was using tupper ware.

So I told her about reusable silicone bags and she purchased them a few days later because she wanted to! These bags have been amazing for going to restaurants and putting your leftovers in. I still remember the first time we brought the bags into a restaurant. Once we finished eating I got them out. I was so worried that something would go wrong! We were able to get everything inside them and but them back in the bag with no spills! These bags are microwaveable, dishwasher safe and can be put in the microwave. My mom and I wash them with soap and put them over a cup to dry. This system works very well and they should last for many more years to come. Here is the link if you are interested in purchasing them or want to know what the heck I was talking about. These are pricey but if you think about how much use you'll get out of them and how fast you go through plastic sandwich bags it's a very good investment.
