4 Undeniable Reasons People Hate Zero Waste
I love zero waste but like for everything you need to consider the cons of them and how much it will effect your life and the others around you.
1. It's hard
Sometimes you just want to relax and go to a restaurant or have some fast food and you can't relax because you don't want to produce any trash. For once I would like to not carry around my bag of straws and containers.
2. You have to compromise on things
When the cheaper tomatoes are in a plastic bag you really have to think about if you want to do that. Do I feel bad knowing that I got something in plastic but I could've gotten it bare. Sometimes. There are so many things that we still get in packaging but in other countries or states I could get it unpackaged. This will be true for all the food I consume but I try my best to avoid plastic packaging
3. Getting people to understand why you're doing this
Multiple times I have told people not to give me a straw and they give me one or two! It's very hard to understand why people don't not give you a straw. I felt like they were trying to sabotage me being zero waste. But really they are just on auto-pilot and they forgot! Sometimes, when I don't they've heard me I go up to the counter and I say "no straw, please" this happened the other day and she took it out and threw it away and said "Oh you're into saving the turtles. We had another drink coming so she said to the girl who was making it "don't put a straw in that one" and she brought it to the table and it had a straw. I was so disappointed, but I will let it go. Just make sure that there is nothing you could've done because you can't go back in time! You can only try to do your best next time.
4. Not having people support you
I haven't met anyone who was zero waste and I look forward to that day. I've even had dreams about it. That's about finding your group and it's hard to do when you're just looking for someone who is compatible with you. It can also can mean that the people you live with: mom, dad, sibling, room mate, spouse, they don't take a shot at being more eco-friendly. Or the group of friends that you've found that you are compatible with thinks that carrying around a reusable straw is silly. They don't say that you can't do it they just don't fully understand why you're doing it.
That's the 4 that I could thing of form the top of my head. There are so many good things about zero waste but if you're just starting take this into account.
