Life: Expectations vs. Reality
I have been raised to thinking that working for someone is a bad thing. That you won't get anywhere if you're an employer. But if you're an employer you have all the power. Most of my friends parents are employee's and they went to college. My Dad's friends are a mix, people who have their own businesses and are doing very well, people who want to be an employer but don't know how to get out of the employee life and people of think it's to hard to be an employer or are just happy with what they have. And my Mom's friends, people from high school or college. What if we could all be happy with both and wouldn't judge other's, what if we could design our life?
If you've seen any TV show you've been jealous. I know I have and still do. Even if you have someones dream life, you want more. I feel like that's a very natural feeling for humans, men and women. There's always the next level of wealth. In the 2nd world war what was really important was supporting the troops and making sure we were safe and had food. Then when the war ended in 1945 we started focusing more on making money. We created "The American Dream Home". I had a beautiful entrance, a picket white fence and an impressive place for entertaining. People realized that women could have a 9-5 job just like men. We could create twice the income, we can buy twice as much! This is when we started putting people in boxes. We created classes, low, middle and upper. People started separating into groups by their class.
We created standards for the classes and we didn't expect more than what we had created. Why couldn't we have created a standard for doing anything! We created something that limitates us.
Millionaires started becoming more plentiful and we even got a couple billionaires! It was exciting to see that someone could make so much money. We started pushing out of our boxes and it became more common to meet a person who was running their own business.
Now in the US in 2020 we have 5.6 million employers and 129.38 million employee's working full time, as of February. Most people aren't happy in their employee job, not saying that people who run their own business always love their job. Think about all the things that you would love to do, once you retire. All the things that you can't do or don't have the time to do. Maybe it's spending more time with your family, traveling the world, working on self-care, but what do I know? Create your perfect day. It can be at your dream job or it can be your day off, or both! It's up to you. The only rules are that you have to do things that you can do on earth, you can't spend time with anyone who has pasted away and 9 hours of the day have to be spend sleeping. You can live anywhere, wake up when you want (5 am or 1 pm, the choices are unlimited!), eat what you want, meet who you want!
Write your dream day down on paper or on a device and try to make it come true. It's all possible! You can quit your job and travel, you'll figure it out. You can even travel for free if you volunteer. If you're interested in this you can learn more here. What do you have to lose?
